Candidate Glass Constructions for Selkirk Projects

Option 0110mm – 12mm

Single Glazed 10mm or 12mm Toughened Glass

Best Suited For:General office perimeter dividers and quiet focus booths where speech privacy is secondary (Rw 32–34 dB).
Engineering Trade-Offs:Lowest cost per linear metre; lightweight slimline perimeter channels; inadequate for confidential HR or boardroom discussions.
Option 0210.8mm – 12.8mm (Acoustic PVB interlayer)

Single Glazed 10.8mm or 12.8mm Acoustic Laminated Glass

Best Suited For:Commercial meeting rooms, legal consultancies, and private executive offices (Rw 38–41 dB).
Engineering Trade-Offs:Excellent single-line acoustic performance without bulky double tracks; dampens speech frequencies; slightly heavier glass handling.
Option 03Twin pane cavity: 10mm Toughened + 50–100mm Air Cavity + 10.8mm/12.8mm Acoustic Laminated

Double Glazed Acoustic Partitioning System

Best Suited For:Confidential boardrooms, telehealth suites, recording studios, and adjacent director suites (Rw 45–50 dB).
Engineering Trade-Offs:Highest acoustic privacy achievable with glass; accommodates integrated micro-venetian blinds or switchable PDLC film; requires wider 100mm perimeter track profiles.

Architectural Design & Safety Checklist

Perform acoustic flanking path audit: Check ceiling void above suspended ceiling tiles (acoustic baffles/sound barriers required) and raised access flooring.
Specify dry-joint glazing gaskets or clear 2mm structural VHB polycarbonate joints (wet silicone joints are messy and non-relocatable).
Detail door types: Sliding glass doors leak substantial sound (max Rw ~28 dB); specify rebated acoustic glass doors with drop-down threshold acoustic seals (Rw 35–41 dB).
Comply with Approved Document K / Equality Act manifestation requirements (two rows of contrasting graphics at 850–1000mm and 1400–1600mm with >= 30% LRV contrast).

Governing British & European Standards

BS EN 12600 Class 1B1 or 1C1
Impact safety compliance across all partition panels and frameless door leaves.
Approved Document K Manifestation
Visual indicator markers at 850–1000mm and 1400–1600mm above finished floor level.
BS EN ISO 717-1 & BS EN ISO 10140-2
Standardized weighted sound reduction index (Rw) laboratory acoustic ratings.

Selkirk Site Logistics & Crane Handling

Lifting Equipment:Standard manual suction handling within HSE guidelines (<20kg per person).
Structural Substrate:Perimeter U-channels must be securely anchored into solid soffits or timber pattresses; cannot fix directly to lightweight plasterboard ceiling grid alone.
Site Tolerances:Ceiling and floor levels must be laser-surveyed; partition channels typically accommodate ±15mm slab deflection deflection.
